SAN ANTONIO, TX – Jan. 18, 2008 –Five young women from cities across Texas have been selected as winners of the “Real Beauty” literacy contest hosted by H-E-B and Dove, the global beauty brand. As a winner, each was presented with a $5,000 savings bond toward her future education.
The winners are:
- Gracie Becker, age 17, of Austin
- Lizette De La Cruz, age 20, of Brownsville
- Tayler Johnson, age 15, of Corpus Christi
- Morgan Chambers, age 19, of Crosby
- Jordan Buckley, age 13, of LaVernia
“We are proud to recognize the accomplishments of these young ladies who are serving as role-models in their community,” said Dya Campos, H-E-B Public Affairs Director.
The winners were selected based on poignant essays submitted by their friends and families that described them as one who exemplified “real beauty” by being unique and self-assured. The contest, launched in September 2007 in H-E-B stores, aligned with the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty, a global effort designed to challenge beauty stereotypes and invite women to join in a discussion about beauty.
