Grant Monies Available To Bexar County Teachers Through The H-E-B Fund For Teacher Excellence

San Antonio , TX – September 8, 2008 – H-E-B strongly believes in supporting teachers and providing them with the means to accomplish professional goals that directly benefit their students and their communities. With this mindset, H-E-B is making available grant monies to Bexar County teachers through the H-E-B Fund for Teacher Excellence.

To be eligible to apply for the grant, applicants must be a full-time K-12 teacher within one of the 17 public school districts located in Bexar County, must have taught for at least three years, and must be at least three years away from retirement. Applications are available at San Antonio area H-E-B stores. Applications must be completed and postmarked by midnight on Friday, November 14, 2008.

Approved applications will result in the award of individual or team grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. Teachers can use this money for professional development programs such as teacher workshops, Master’s degree courses and Advance Placement conferences.

H-E-B is awarding $200,000 in grants annually over a five year period through the program to total $1 million.

The H-E-B Fund for Teacher Excellence was created in 2005 as the company celebrated 100 years in operation as a gift to Bexar County, the site of its headquarters. The program is an extension of the company’s strong commitment to supporting education initiatives.
